Mavericks Return to All Seasons for WCHA Series with Minnesota

Mankato, Minn.--- The Minnesota State women’s hockey squad returns home to All Seasons Arena to host the Minnesota Golden Gophers for a WCHA-series. The Mavericks (6-5-1 overall, 5-5-0-0 WCHA) and the Golden Gophers (6-5-1 overall, 3-5-0-0 WCHA) will get things started at 7:07 p.m. Friday, and wrap-up the series on Saturday at 3:07 p.m.

Program History:
The 2010-11 season will mark the 13th year of women’s hockey as a varsity sport at Minnesota State…MSU has competed in 431 games...The Mavericks hold a 126-267-38 (.336) all-time record.

Follow the Leader: Junior defenseman Ariel Mackley will serve as the team captain this season, with juniors forward Moira O’Connor and junior defenseman Jackie Otto as the alternate captains.

A Look at the Gophers:  The Minnesota Golden Gophers own a 6-5-0 overall record with a 3-5-0-0 mark in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association...They have recorded 32 goals to their opponents 24 goals...Minnesota has scored 13 goals in the first period, 12 in the second and seven in the third...The Golden Gophers have tallied 372 shots to their opponents 284 shots...UM is 11-53 (.208) on the power play, while its opponents are 6-59 (.102)...The Gophers have 11 skaters that have had atleast one goal and have had 17 skaters that have had atleast one point this season...Minnesota is led by: rookie forward Kelly Terry (5-7--12), freshman forward Amanda Kessel (5-7--12) and junior blueliner Anne Schleper (2-7--9)...Four Gophers own a team-high two  power play goals...Sophomore defenseman Megan Bozek  leads the team in penalties with nine for 18 minutes...The Gophers rank first in penalty minutes per game in the WCHA, averaging 17.1...The Gophers have had two goaltenders in net for them this season, sophomore netminder Noora Raty who owns a team-best 5-3-0, a 2.01 G.A.A., .927 save percentage and 203 saves, and junior goaltender Alyssa Grogan, who owns a 1-2-0 record, a 2.38 goals against average, a .891 save percentage and 57 saves.

MSU/UM History:
The Minnesota State Mavericks are owners of a 3-49-3 overall record against Minnesota...The two teams faced-off four times in regular season games last year, which resulted in a 0-1-3 record for the Mavericks...The Gophers also eliminated MSU from the frozen four, defeating the Mavericks in back-to-back contests, one of which included a 4-3 triple over-time win...The last time the Mavericks earned a victory over Minnesota was in 2006-07 season, when they defeated them, 4-3...Sophomore Lauren Smith tallied 3-4--7 last year against the Golden Gophers, a team-best, while junior forward Emmi Leinonen finished the year with 2-1--3 against the University of Minnesota.
