Mavericks to Face Ohio State on the Road in League-Series

Mankato, Minn.--- The Minnesota State women’s hockey squad travels to Columbus, Ohio to take on the Ohio State University Buckeyes for a WCHA-series. The Mavericks (4-5-1 overall, 3-5-0-0 WCHA) and the Buckeyes (6-3-1 overall, 2-3-1-1 WCHA) will get things started at 7:07 p.m. Friday, and finish the series on Saturday at 7:07 p.m.

Program History: The 2010-11 season will mark the 13th year of women’s hockey as a varsity sport at Minnesota State…MSU has competed in 429 games...The Mavericks hold a 124-267-38 (.333) all-time record.

Follow the Leader:
Junior defenseman Ariel Mackley will serve as the team captain this season, with juniors forward Moira O’Connor and junior defenseman Jackie Otto as the alternate captains.

A Look at the Buckeyes:  The Ohio State University owns a 6-3-1 overall record with a 2-3-1-0-0 mark in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association...They have recorded 39 goals to their opponents 23 goals...Ohio State has given up seven goals in the first period, seven in the second and seven in the third; while giving up two in over-time...The Buckeyes have tallied 280 shots to their opponents 389 shots...OSU is 10-44 (.227) on the power play, while their opponents are 6-41 (.146)...The Buckeyes are led by: junior forward Laura McIntosh (6-15--21), junior forward Natalie Spooner (12-5--17) and sophomore forward Hokey Logan (4-12--16)...Spooner is the owner of a team-best five power play goals...Senior defenseman Teal Bishop is the owner of a team-high seven penalties for 14 minutes...The buckeyes have had one goaltender in net for them this season, freshman netminder Lisa Steffes, who owns a 6-3-1 record, a 2.17 goals against average, a .929 save percentage and 286 saves.

MSU/OSU History: The Minnesota State Mavericks are owners of a 7-37-4 overall record against Ohio State...The two teams faced-off four times last season, which resulted in a 0-4-0 record for the Mavericks...The last time the Mavericks earned a victory over Ohio State was in 2008-09 season, when they defeated them, 2-1...Junior forward Moria O’Connor tallied 3-2--5 last year agasint the Buckeyes, a team-best, while sophomore Lauren Smith had 2-1--3.
