Mankato, Minn. --- Strong goaltending on both sides, along with an early power play goal in the second period, pushed the visiting Colorado College Tigers to a 1-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association win over Minnesota State in Mankato on Saturday night, to split this weekend’s series.

After a scoreless first period, the only goal of the game came on the power play at 2:13 in the second period, when Tigers senior Stephen Schultz pushed a rebound past MSU sophomore netminder Phil Cook

MSU goaltender Phil Cook tied his career-high for saves in a game with 40, while CC sophomore netminder Joe Howe made an equally notable 35 saves on the night.

Both teams struggled on the power play, with MSU unable to capitalize on the man-advantage (0-7), and CC scoring just once on 14 power plays.

The Mavericks, now 1-2-3 overall (1-2-1 WCHA) on the year, travel to Anchorage next weekend to square-off against  Alaska Anchorage in a pair of league contests.
