Box Score Fayette, Iowa --- The Minnesota State Mavericks dominated the Peacocks of Upper Iowa Friday evening, 97-64, in Fayette, Iowa.
The win marks the 572 victory in program history as well as the sixth consecutive victory over the Peacocks. As for coach Pam Gohl the victory earns her the 41st of her career at MSU.
Opening the game, sophomore guard
Jennie Noreen drills a three point shot followed by a lay-up to give the Mavericks an 5-0 lead for the first points of the game. The Mavericks allowed the Peacocks to come back and tie the game 9-9 at the 16:33 mark of the first half. Minnesota State didn't allow the Peacocks to gain any lead, pulling away and taking a 13-point lead with 10 minutes left in the half. With one minute remaining in the first half the Mavericks took the largest lead in the half by 26 points off a fast-break layup by senior forward
Liz Trauger. The Peacocks went on to score five more points ending the half with the Mavericks leading 51-30.
Minnesota State was led in the first half by senior guard
Tiffany Moe with 13 points, Noreen posting 12 points and Trauger with nine. At the half the Mavericks were shooting 55.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from the arc.
The Mavericks started the second half with a jumper from sophomore center
Laura Weber. At 15:51 the Mavericks allowed the Peacocks to cut the lead to 16 points, the lowest lead of the half. Mavericks didn't allow the Peacocks to come any closer and pulled away from there on, taking the largest lead of the game by 37 points with 2:33 left in the half.
The Mavericks earned the second largest victory of the season over the Peacocks. MSU's bench scored 32 points in the victory. Minnesota State shot 46.7 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from the arc. The Mavericks outrebounded the Peacocks 44-34.
Maverick leaders were; Noreen and Trauger both with a team-high 17 points, Trauger with a team-high nine rebounds. Freshman guard
Sarah Wiensand Moe both scored 15 points, a career-high for Wiens, as freshman forward
Ali Wilkinson added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Maverick victory.
The Mavericks now 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the NSIC, finish their five-game road trip as they travel to Winona, Minn. to take on the Warriors of Winona State, Saturday at 5 p.m.
