Steven’s Point, Wis. – The Minnesota State women’s swimming and diving team sits in fourth place with 218.5 points after the opening day of the 2010 Pointer Open hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Steven’s Point. UW-LaCrosse leads the nine-team field with 400 points.
Individually, the Mavericks swam well as several placed in “A” or “B” finals. In the 200-yard individual medley “A” final, freshman Tabby Temperly was second in 2:15.34, while sophomore Emily Timm was fourth touching in 2:16.09. The “B” final featured three Mavericks placing as junior Adrienne Vida turned in a 10th-place finish (2:17.96), followed by freshman Marissa Reeve (12th, 2:18.60) and junior Kristin Hayes (16th, 2:22.16).
The 100-yard backstroke saw junior Angela Krych turn in a third-place finish in the “A” final with a time of 1:00.26, while freshman Alyssa Kuffel was seventh in the “A” final of the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:33.11. In the “B” final of the 200-yard breaststroke, senior Rachel Busch was 13th in 2:37.64, while freshman Amber McHugh was 15th in 2:38.52.
Junior Kim Christensen was seventh in the “A” final of the 100-yard freestyle in :55.10, while Hayes was 11th in the “B” final in :5.98. Sophomore Stefanie Edwards turned in a 15th-place finish with a time of :56.54, while Temperly was 16th in :56.81. Reeve finished “B” final of the 200-yard butterfly in 13th place with a time of 2:22.47.
In the relays, the squad of Hayes, Reeve, senior Ana Arnold and Busch turned in a fifth-place finish in the 800-yard butterfly with a time of 8:11.38.
The Mavericks conclude the two-day long meet Saturday.
