Mavericks In 12th-Place After Three Days at NCAA Championships

Houston, Texas - The Minnesota State women’s swimming and diving team sits in 13th-place with 80 points after the second day of the 2009 NCAA Division II Championships. The event, which is held at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston, is part of the NCAA Division II Winter Sports Festival.

Drury leads the field with 417 points.

MSU saw its 800-yard freestyle relay finish seventh with a time of 7:44.71. The squad, which was made up of senior Ashley Baer, freshman Emily Timm, freshman Megan Pickert and sophomore Kristen Hayes. The team finished seventh in the prelims with a time of 7:44.71.

Individually, MSU senior Jenna Smith and freshman Kaitlin Ogden All-American honors in the 100-yard breaststroke. Smith finished 12th, touching in 1:04.68, while Ogden was 15th in 1:05.20. Smith swam a 1:04.15 in the prelims while Ogden finished 14th in the prelims with a time of 1:04.71. Freshman
Adrienne Vida finished 37th in the same race with a time of 1:06.86. Senior Angela Krych advanced to the finals in the 100-yard backstroke but was disqualified.

The four-day long event concludes Saturday.
