St. Paul, Minn. – The offices of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference have announced that Minnesota State senior heavyweight Brady Wilson (Faribault, Minn.) has been named NSIC Wrestler of the Week. It is the first such honor for a Maverick this season.
Wilson posted a 4-0 record to claim the heavyweight title at the St. Cloud State Husky Open this past weekend. Wilson rolled into the finals with three falls, the first in 32 seconds over Josh Koler of Ridgewater, the second over Carter Ash of Southwest MSU in 3:47 and the third over Chris Brassell of St. Cloud State in 2:12. That performance also earned him the Jack Gause Award at the tournament for most falls. In the championship match, he crafted a 1-0 decision over Andy Witzel of Augsburg who is currently ranked #4 in Division III. Wilson, the top-ranked heavyweight in NCAA Division II, improved his record to 11-4 on the season.
Minnesota State continues its tournament schedule next Sunday, Dec. 20th, with a trip to the Reno Tournament of Champions.
