Minnesota State Drops 3-2 Decision to Colorado College
Mankato, Minn. – Colorado College completed a sweep of a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series over Minnesota State by handing the Mavericks a 3-2 loss Saturday in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play at the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato.
Colorado College junior defensemen Ryan Lowery opened the scoring when he beat MSU sophomore goaltender Austin Lee 11:43 into the first period.
The Mavericks tied the score at 4:14 when sophomore wing Mike Louwerse tallied on the power play for his third goal of the year.
Then, just 3:24 into the second period, junior wing Stephen Schultz got a power play marker in allowing the Tigers to regain the lead. Sophomore center Nate Prosser made it a 3-1 CC lead at 3:55 into the third period with a MSU player in the penalty box.
MSU senior center Zach Harrison, who was hauled down by Prosser at 5:49, had an opportunity to cut the deficit to one when he was awarded a penalty shot, which was turned aside by Howe on a backhanded attempt to the stick side.
Maverick junior defenseman Channing Boe's shotfrom the blue line beat Howe with 4:25 to go in the third period, in making it a one-goal game. The goal was Boe's first of the year.
The Tigers, who wned a 31-30 shots on goal advantage in the win, were two-of-eight in power play chances, while the Mavericks went one-for-three with the man advantage.
The weekend series marks the first time the Mavericks have been swept at home since they faced Denver Dec. 12-13, 2008.
Next up for the Mavericks, now 3-6-1 overall and 1-6-1 in WCHA play, is a road series at Alaska-Anchorage Nov. 20-21.
