    Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State fell to #10 Colorado College 1-0 in overtime Friday in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association played at the Verizon Wireless Center in downtown Mankato. 

 

Three periods of play left the Mavericks and Tigers scoreless sending the game into the extra session.

 

With 52 seconds to go in the overtime period, and with a Maverick player in the penalty box, freshman center Rylan Schwartz beat MSU sophomore goaltender Austin Lee with a partially screened wrist shot to the stick side to end the game.

 

The Mavericks, who out shot the Tigers 31-26 on the night, went zero-for-three on the power play, while the Tigers were one-for-seven.   

 

The loss marks the first overtime loss for the Mavericks during the 2009-10 season.  The last overtime loss for MSU was a double-overtime defeat versus Minnesota March 16, 2008 in the first round of the WCHA play-offs.  The last time MSU lost in overtime during the regular season at home was to Minnesota-Duluth in 2005-06,

 

Friday’s contest marked the 39th meeting for the Mavericks and the Tigers, who split a pair of series in the 2008-09 season.  The Tigers own a 26-12-1 advantage over the Mavericks in all-time series between the two teams. 

 

The Mavericks, now 3-5-1 overall and 1-5-1 in WCHA conference play, finish the weekend series against Colorado College Saturday at 7:07 p.m. in the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato.
