MANAKTO, Minn. --- Members of the Minnesota State men's and women's track and field teams have set new records in the discus event at the Minnesota State Open Sunday.

Men
In the discus event,
Dylan Gross set a school record in the discus event. On his first throw, he surpassed the previous record of 55.84m (183-2) set by Grant Lauer in 2013 before eventually finishing the event with a throw of 57.71m (189-4). Five of his six throw surpassed the previous school record.
In the sixth round of the discus,
Hayden Bills surpassed the throw of Gross as he finished the day with a throw of 59.35m (194-8). Two of throws by Bills passed the previous school record.
The discus throws by Bills and Gross rank first and third in NCAA Division II this season, respectively.
In the javelin event,
Braxton Stewart finished first with a throw of 50.23m (164-9), while
Johan McCormick took third place with a throw of 42.56m (139-7).
In the Hammer throw, Bills finished in second place with a throw of 55.79m (183-0).
Justin Fretag posted a throw of 44.67m (146-6) in the hammer throw as well.
Women
In the women's discus event,
Elise Jensen surpassed the previous MSU record of 50.78m (166-7) set by Kortney Ihnen in 2003 twice. Jensen ultimately finished with a throw of 51.51m (169-0) which Is the fifth best in Division II this season.
Aubri Brown finished third in the discus with a throw of 45.96m (150-9), while
Sarah Zino finished fifth with a throw of 41.89m (137-5) also.
Zino took second place in the hammer throw event with a personal best throw of 46.11m (151-3), while
Emma Osier finished third with a throw of 45.32m (148-8).
In the javelin,
Lane King led the Mavericks with a throw of 30.45m (99-11.)
