MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota State softball team (4-10) travels to the Sunshine State this week for a 10-game slate at The Space Coast Spring Games in Melbourne, Fla.

About the Mavericks
Head coach Kristle Wolcott, in her first season leading the Mavericks, holds a 4-10 overall record. At the Top Gun Midwest College Classic, Minnesota State went 1-4 on the weekend, earning its fourth win of the season with a 6-5 extra-inning victory over Nebraska-Kearney. After eight innings of play, the Mavericks secured the narrow win.

As a team, Minnesota State is batting .259 through 14 games while posting a .390 slugging percentage. In the circle, Maverick pitchers have combined for a 6.87 ERA and have recorded 59 strikeouts this season. Defensively, Minnesota State holds a .939 fielding percentage.

Phoenix, Ariz., native Izzy Hycnar provided a spark for the Maverick offense during the Top Gun Midwest College Classic with several strong performances at the plate. Against Nebraska-Kearney, Hycnar collected three hits, including a home run and a double, while driving in two runs. Her solo home run helped the Mavericks even the score, and she also showcased her speed earlier in the weekend by swiping home on a wild pitch. Hycnar continued to produce in the second game of the day against Washburn, adding two RBIs to help keep Minnesota State within striking distance. Through eight games this season, Hycnar is batting .393.

Hannah Tong delivered one of the most clutch performances of the weekend for the Mavericks. In the extra-inning victory over Nebraska-Kearney, Tong recorded three hits and two RBIs, including the walk off RBI single in the eighth inning that secured the 6-5 win for Minnesota State. The sophomore followed that effort with another strong showing against Washburn, tallying three hits including a double and scoring twice.

In the circle, Maddie Oetzmann turned in one of the Mavericks' most impressive pitching performances of the weekend. Entering in relief against Nebraska-Kearney, Oetzmann tossed 4 2/3 hitless innings while striking out five and allowing just one walk. Her dominant outing kept the Mavericks within reach and set the stage for Minnesota State's late comeback victory.

Finley Anderson also made key contributions for MSU throughout the weekend. Anderson provided power at the plate with a solo home run against Rockhurst, marking her second home run of the season.
