ELKHORN, Neb. — The Minnesota State Mavericks earned a doubleheader sweep over Minot State Friday at Frerichs Legion Field, taking game one 8–1 before securing a 4–1 victory in game two.
Game One: Minnesota State 8, Minot State 1
Minnesota State used timely hitting and a dominant performance on the mound to take the opener 8–1.
The Mavericks struck first in the second inning when
Cole Yearsley launched a solo home run to give MSU the early lead. Minnesota State broke the game open in the fourth inning.
Brandon Vlcko reached on a walk and later scored on an
Owen Sikkink double to center field. Moments later,
Jake Berkland delivered the big swing of the inning with a three-run home run to extend the lead to 5–0.
The Mavericks added three more runs in the fifth inning. Yearsley and Sikkink each recorded singles before
Logan Miller drove in a run with a base hit. Berkland followed with a sacrifice fly and
Louis Magers added an RBI groundout to push the lead to 8–0.
Minot State managed its lone run on a solo home run in the sixth, but Minnesota State maintained control throughout the contest.
Sam George delivered a complete game for the Mavericks, striking out 10 batters across seven innings while allowing just four hits and one run without issuing a walk.
Sikkink led MSU with three hits and an RBI, while Berkland drove in four runs with his three-run homer and sacrifice fly. Yearsley added two hits, including his solo home run.
Game Two: Minnesota State 4, Minot State 1
The Mavericks completed the sweep with a 4–1 victory in the second game behind strong pitching and a late offensive push.
Minnesota State opened the scoring in the fourth inning when
Louis Magers singled and later came home on a sacrifice fly from
Ethan Bowers. Minot State tied the game in the fifth with an unearned run, but the Mavericks quickly regained the lead when
Charlie Schau hit a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning.
The Mavericks created separation in the seventh inning.

Jake Berkland reached base to set up
CJ Trask, who delivered a two-run double to left field to extend the lead to 4–1.
Mack Crowley earned the win for Minnesota State, allowing one unearned run on five hits across five innings. He added one strikeout and picked off a runner.
Daniel Zang closed the game with four scoreless innings, striking out six while allowing just two hits to earn the save.
Trask led the Mavericks with two RBIs, while Schau added a home run.
"Our pitchers did a great job attacking the zone early in counts." said head coach
Matt Magers. "Defensively we took care of the baseball, and offensively we found ways to get on base and manufacture runs in different ways."
Minnesota State will conclude the series against Minot State on Sunday, March 15 at 11 a.m. CT at Frerichs Legion Field.
