MARYVILLE, Mo. --- Minnesota State picked up its eighth and ninth wins of the season Friday afternoon as the Mavericks bested the UMary Marauders by the scores of 13-1 and 17-11.
MSU now owns a 9-1 overall record, including a 5-0 NSIC record. With the two losses, UMary drops to 3-7, including a 1-4 NSIC record.
Game 1 Recap
Minnesota State began the day with a 13-1 win over the Marauders in seven innings.
Junior
Sam George (3-0) picked up the win as he allowed just four hits in six innings, while striking out five. Cullen Wilson (0-1) took the loss as he gave up five runs in 0.2 innings.
The Mavericks wasted no time in jumping out in front as they scored five runs off of two hits and five walks in the bottom of the first. Four Mavericks drove in at least one run in the inning, including senior
Logan Miller who plated a pair of runs with an RBI-single to right field. Senior
Louis Magers also drove in a run with a double to left center.
MSU added three more runs in the second inning to go up 8-0. The Mavericks took advantage of a pair of Marauder errors. Senior

Owen Sikkink drove in two more with a double.
The bottom of the fifth saw Minnesota State add four more runs to increase its lead to 13-0. Miller once again drove in a pair of runs with an RBI-single. The Marauders managed to get a run across the plate in the top of the seventh, but they could get no more as the Mavericks locked down the 13-1 win.
Miller finished the game with four RBI, while Sikkink added three. Sophomore
Jake Berkland and junior
Pambos Nicoloudes each scored three runs in the game. Nicoloudes and Sikkink each coaxed three walks as the Mavericks combined for 12 walks in the game.
Game 2 Recap
Minnesota State finished the day with a 17-11 win in game two against the Marauders.
Junior
Daniel Zang (1-0) earned the win as he allowed five runs, on eight hits, while striking out five in 5.2 innings. Ryan Chamberlain (0-1) was saddled with the loss as he gave us eight runs on 10 hits, in 4.1 innings.
In total the Mavericks scored 17 runs on 20 hits against the Marauders, including five home runs and four doubles. Senior
Brandon Vlcko notched a pair of solo home runs in the first and third innings, while senior
Logan Miller notched a three-run blast in the third. Seniors
Louis Magers and
Cole Yearsley recorded two-run home runs to right field in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively.
Miller finished the game with four hits and three RBI, while Yearsley led the team in RBI with 5, while Magers drove in four. Vlcko notched three hits and a walk and came around to score all four times. Sophomore
Jake Berkland and Yearsley each scored three runs as well.
Minnesota State led throughout the game, but after a three-run top of the eighth for the Marauders, UMary pulled back within four of the Mavericks at 12-8. The bottom of the eighth saw the Mavericks put to bed any thoughts of a ninth-inning comeback as they rallied for five runs of their own to increase their lead to 17-8. Yearsley drove in the first two runs with a single to center field, before a single from Berkland scored Yearsley. A double to center field by Magers brought in MSU's final two runs of the game as the Mavericks would close out the 17-11 win.
