Mavericks Collect Sixth Straight Win in Jamestown Sweep

RAPID CITY, Minn. – The ball continued to leave the yard for the Mavericks on Tuesday in Rapid City as the Mavericks closed out a pair of victories over University of Jamestown, 15-4 and 7-1 at Floyd Fitzgerald Stadium. With their sixth straight win in game two, Minnesota State baseball improved to 7-1 overall, 3-0 in NSIC play. They will start a four-game set against UMary on Friday February 27 in Maryville, Missouri, at Bearcat Baseball Field. Jamestown fell to 0-8 overall, 0-3 in the NSIC.

"It was a productive day with two important wins," said head coach Matt Magers. "Winning four games in 48 hours is demanding. I was impressed with our preparation, depth and competitive edge."

Game 1 – Minnesota State 15, Jamestown 4 (7 inn.)

The Mavericks spread out 13 hits in game one but the fifth inning stood out, with three-straight solo home runs from Brandon Vlcko, Cole Yearsley (second) and Pambos Nicoloudes (first) leading off. It marked three consecutive games with a home run for Vlcko, MSU's senior catcher, who totaled seven runs batted the day before.

Minnesota State led 6-2 after two innings and piled on five more in the top of the seventh to comfortably pull away.

The top of the batting order was consistent. Ethan Bowers finished with three hits and three runs scored in the leadoff spot. Jake Berkland continued his hot start to the 2026 campaign with one hit and three runs batted in and Louis Magers posted a pair of hits and three RBI. Designated hitter CJ Trask also homered to center field in the sixth and totaled three hits, three runs and a pair of runs batted in.

Mack Crowley (2-0) tossed 5.0 innings in the start and allowed three earned runs on four hits, struck out four and walked zero.

Game 2 – Minnesota State 8, Jamestown 5 (7 inn.)

Played as a non-conference contest, Minnesota State topped Jamestown 8-5 to conclude the four-game series. The Purple and Gold broke open the game with a four-run second inning. Nicoloudes started the rally with a single. Charlie Schau reached on a hit by pitch. Sam Haugen singled in Nicoloudes with a single to right field and Ethan Bowers followed with a triple to centerfield.

Jake Berkland added a sacrifice fly to give MSU a 5-1 lead.

UJ chipped away at the lead in the sixth. Benney Benitez was hit by a pitch to open the frame, advanced to second on a balk, and scored when Mason Shea ripped an RBI double to center field, making it an 8-4 game.

Jamestown mounted one final threat late. Jett Nelson led off the seventh inning with a sharp single to center field. Two batters later, pinch-hitter Ben Swennumson delivered an RBI single to right field to score Nelson. With the score at 8-5 and the tying run coming to the plate, MSU reliever Cale Haugen secured a game-ending strikeout.

Ben Irsfeld (1-0) collected the win in relief for the Mavericks.
