MANKATO, Minn. — Minnesota State fell to second-ranked Ohio State 4–1 at home, with the Buckeyes (21-3-0, 15-3-0) scoring three goals in the second period to secure the victory.
Ohio State cracked the scoreboard first last in the first as Kassidy Carmichael scored an unassisted goal at the 17:25 mark of the period.
The second period started with four on four hockey as the Buckeyes scored 46 seconds into the period to make it 2-0. OSU extended the lead to 3-0 at 4:38 of the period as Hilda Svensson found the back of the net on the power play.
Taylor Otremba ignited a spark for Minnesota State with a goal at 10:44, assisted by
Mercury Bischoff and
Lauren Zawoyski, narrowing the deficit to two.
Ohio State added another late period goal as Joy Dunne extended their lead with a late goal at 1:16, assisted by Mira Jungåker and Sloane Matthews. The period closed with the Buckeyes leading the Mavericks 4-1.
The two teams skated to a scoreless third period.
Hansen finished with 31 saves in the loss.
Lauren Goldsworthy blocked four shots for the Mavericks while Zawoyski provided an assist and led the team with five blocked shots.
