Mavericks Wrap Up Road Trip with Win at Minot State

MINOT, N.D. — Minnesota State (9-9, 3-7 NSIC) secured a 72-67 victory over Minot State (8-8, 5-5 NSIC) on Saturday at the Minot State Dome.

Minnesota State established an early advantage with a strong opening half, converting four 3-pointers and holding a 20-15 rebounding edge over Minot. The Mavericks opened the half with an early lead, sparked by back-to-back 3-pointers from freshman Phoenix Childs. Senior Malcolm Jones contributed significant points in the paint, while freshman Colton Benson added crucial free throws to extend the margin.

The Mavericks maintained momentum through efficient shooting and defensive plays, including Jones' critical block and junior Traijan Sain's defensive rebounds. By the midpoint, Minnesota State held a comfortable lead, fueled by strong bench contributions and second-chance opportunities. They capitalized on 13 offensive rebounds to outscore Minot 19-9 in second-chance points. The first half concluded with Minnesota State leading 39-31.

Minnesota State initiated the second half with a steady offensive performance, highlighted by a series of successful layups from Sain and Jones. Despite Minot's attempts to close the gap, Minnesota State's consistent scoring, including a timely jumper by junior Arhman Lewis, kept them in control. As the half progressed, the Mavericks continued to find success inside the paint, with Childs contributing crucial points. Minot managed to challenge Minnesota State's lead with a series of baskets. However, Minnesota State's ability to convert key free throws in the final seconds, with Benson sinking four consecutive shots, ensured they held a 72-67 advantage at the end of the game.

Jones scored 16 points with eight field goals and added seven rebounds. Sain finished with 19 points, converting eight field goals and collecting seven boards. Benson tallied eight points, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and grabbing six rebounds. Lewis contributed seven points and recorded four assists while adding three rebounds.

Isaiah Alexander led Minot with 21 points, shooting 8-for-11 from the field and contributing five assists. He also pulled down seven rebounds. Darik Dissette added 19 points, making eight of his 14 shot attempts, and matched Alexander with seven rebounds. Deuce Benjamin scored 11 points and grabbed two rebounds, while Carson Yale provided defensive support with two blocks and seven rebounds.
