MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State (4-0-1, 2-0 NSIC) is set to host Northern State (0-4-1, 0-1-1 NSIC) on Friday at 3 p.m. and Jamestown (0-4, 0-2 NSIC) on Sunday at 1p.m. at The Pitch as part of Homecoming weekend.
The Mavericks enter the weekend after a dominant road trip. On Friday at UMary,
Marin Johnson tallied her second straight game-winner, while senior defender
Courtney Kovacs added her first goal of the season in a 2-0 victory. Goalkeeper
Lauren McAlpine posted her fourth consecutive shutout to open the year.
On Sunday at Minot State, MSU's offense exploded in a 5-0 win.
Maddix Archer opened the scoring in the 13th minute before
Avery Korsching doubled the lead three minutes later. Johnson extended the advantage to 3-0 in the first half, while
Meghan Sullivan and
Anna Stromberg added second-half tallies. McAlpine and the Maverick back line limited the Beavers to just three shots on goal, earning her fifth clean sheet of the season.
McAlpine currently leads the NSIC in goals-against average, saves, and shutouts per game.
Facing the Wolves
Minnesota State holds a 16-1-4 all-time record against Northern State. The teams last met in Mankato a season ago, battling to a scoreless draw.
This year, the Wolves are 0-1-1 in NSIC play, with a tie against Winona State and a loss to Concordia-St. Paul. Freshman midfielder Savannah Funk leads NSU with one goal and one assist, while junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Turner owns a .737 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average.
Facing the Jimmies
Sunday marks the first-ever meeting between Minnesota State and Jamestown. The Jimmies enter at 0-2 in conference action following losses to Concordia-St. Paul and Winona State. Freshman defender Langley Grow and sophomore Abrianna Madill pace the team with one goal each.
