BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Minnesota State Volleyball continued its strong start to the season as two Mavericks earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Player of the Week honors. Junior middle blocker
Avery Rosenberg was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore setter
Jadyn Lester claimed NSIC Setter of the Week.
This marks the first career weekly honors for both Rosenberg and Lester.
Rosenberg was unstoppable at the net this past weekend, providing the Mavericks with both efficiency and firepower. Over two matches, she averaged 5.00 points per set and 4.67 kills per set, the highest kills-per-set average in the NSIC for the week and the second-best points-per-set total. Her dominance was further highlighted by a .523 hitting percentage, thus far this season.
Her standout performance came against Minot State, where Rosenberg posted a new season high with 17 kills and 18.0 total points. She hit .625 in the match, recording two key blocks to help secure the sweep. Combined with an 11-kill performance against University of Mary, Rosenberg proved to be a consistent offensive weapon who could take over matches when the Mavericks needed her most.
At the heart of Minnesota State's attack, Lester provided consistent and precise setting throughout the weekend. She averaged an NSIC-best 13.00 assists per set, helping the Mavericks secure sweeps over UMary and Minot State. With Lester running the offense, MSU posted a .402 team hitting percentage, the highest mark in the conference for the week.
She totaled 78 assists without a single setting error, keeping the Mavericks in rhythm throughout both matches. In addition to her setting, Lester added seven kills on a .500 hitting percentage, proving to be an effective option at the net when needed. She also delivered five service aces, giving MSU important scoring runs from the line. Lester's strong all-around performance highlighted both her reliability and her impact as a leader on the court.
MSU last had two players selected for NSIC Weekly honors on Nov. 5, 2018, when libero
Mara Quam was named Defensive Player of the Week and outside hitter
Morgan Olson earned Offensive Player of the Week.
The Mavericks take on No. 16 St. Cloud State (7-2, 2-0 NSIC) on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Taylor Center. Minnesota State is 33-26 against St. Cloud State, but the Huskies have bested the Mavericks in the last five matchups.
