MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota State sophomore forward
Alex Zetterberg (Sundvall, Sweden) has been selected to play for Team Sweden at the 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. The event will take place from July 25 to Aug 2 on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Team practices commence on July 25, with the first games set for July 27.

In March, Mankato was named as one of Minnesota's host communities for the World Juniors Pre-Tournament Series presented by Delta Dental of Minnesota. Several exhibition games will be played throughout Minnesota as part of the exciting lead-up to the 2026 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship, which will take place from December 26, 2025, to January 5, 2026, in the Twin Cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. While teams have not yet been announced, pre-tournament games are expected to draw hockey fans from around the world, providing an economic boost while highlighting Mankato as a premier destination for sports and tourism. Zetterberg played 24 games in his first collegiate season at Boston University (HEA) before transferring to the Mavericks this summer. He tallied eight points, including three goals and five assists and scored a goal in each of the Terriers' first two games of the season, including the game-winner against Union on Oct. 12. Zetterberg played for Sweden at the 2024 IIHF World Under-18 Championships and scored two goals with three assists in four games to help his country win the bronze medal.
