Mavericks Sweep Beavers in Doubleheader at Bowyer Field

MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota State baseball team dominated both ends of Saturday's doubleheader against Bemidji State at Bowyer Field, shutting out the Beavers in Game 1, 7-0, before erupting for a 16-2 victory in Game 2.

Game 1 – MSU 7 BSU 0 (7 innings)
MSU set the tone early, plating a run in the bottom of the first and never looking back. Louis Magers drove in the opening run with an RBI groundout, and the Mavericks added three more in the second inning, capped by a two-RBI single from Matthew Fleischhacker. Lincoln Berry delivered the knockout blow in the third with a three-run homer to right, giving MSU a 7-0 cushion.

On the mound, the Mavericks' pitching staff was dominant, allowing just five hits while striking out 11 batters. The Beavers struggled to find any rhythm offensively and left seven runners on base.

Game 2 – MSU 16 BSU 2 (7 innings)
The Maverick bats exploded in Game 2, racking up 14 hits and capitalizing on miscues from Bemidji State. MSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and didn't let up.

Ike Mezzenga smashed a three-run homer in the second inning, and the Mavericks poured on the runs from there, including a seven-run sixth inning to seal the route.

Every Maverick starter reached base at least once, and five players drove in multiple runs. The Beavers managed just two runs one earned while the Mavericks' pitching once again kept control.

"Offensively we were pretty relentless and had a couple big scoring innings, it gives us an opportunity to get a lot of guys in these games and thats what we hope for tomorrow as well." said head coach Matt Magers

The Mavericks and Beavers will finish the series tomorrow with another double header at Bowyer Field at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
