#10 Minnesota State Sweeps St. Cloud State in Weekend Series

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Minnesota State capped off the weekend with another dominant performance, securing a doubleheader sweep against St. Cloud State on Friday afternoon at Dick Putz Field. The Mavericks took the first game in a high-scoring 10-8 battle before shutting out the Huskies 10-1 in the second game.

Game 1 – MSU 10 SCSU 8 (8 innings)

The Mavericks struck first in the top of the second inning, capitalizing on a defensive miscue by the Huskies. After a leadoff walk to Louis Magers and a single by Matthew Fleischhacker, Aidan Byrne drove in the game's first run with a groundout. An RBI single from Logan Miller extended Minnesota State's early lead to 2-0.

The Mavericks tackled on another run in the fourth when Byrne tripled and was promptly driven in by Miller, making it 3-0. Two more runs in the fifth, including an RBI double from Fleischhacker, pushed their lead to 5-0.

St. Cloud State responded in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four runs to claw back into the game. Minnesota State answered right back in the seventh, plating three runs to extend their advantage to 8-4. However, the Huskies stormed back in the bottom half, tying the game at 8-8 with another four-run inning.

The Mavericks reclaimed the lead in the eighth with a clutch RBI single from Fleischhacker and a sacrifice fly from Byrne to go up 10-8. Minnesota State's bullpen shut the door in the final two innings, securing the hard-fought victory.

Fleischhacker led the Mavericks offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Miller and Byrne each contributed multiple RBIs.

Game 2 – MSU 10 SCSU 1 (7 innings)

After a quiet first two innings, the Mavericks broke through in the third with a solo home run by Brandon Vlcko to take a 1-0 lead. The bats came alive again in the fifth when Ike Mezzenga blasted a three-run homer, extending the lead to 4-0.

Minnesota State continued to pour on the runs in the sixth, tacking on three more behind RBI hits from Ben Palmer and a wild pitch that brought home another run. Braxton Haggith sealed the deal in the seventh with a three-run homer to right field, pushing the Mavericks' lead to 10-0.

"Both wins were a total team effort. We showed resilience and adaptability in finding ways to overcome challenges in key moments." said head coach Matt Magers

This weekend was the first time since 2008 since the Mavericks have swept the Huskies on the road.

The Mavericks are back in action as they face Northwestern College on Tuesday in Orange City, Iowa.
