MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The Minnesota State Mavericks (13-19-2, 7-19-2 WCHA) wrapped up the regular season on a high note, completing a weekend sweep over the St. Thomas Tommies (9-22-2, 6-20-1 WCHA) with a 3-0 victory on Saturday night at St. Thomas Ice Arena.
The Mavericks struck first in the opening period when
Madison Mashuga found the back of the net at the 10-minute mark, assisted by
Jamie Nelson and
Sydney Langseth. With the assist, Nelson reached a career milestone, recording her 100th career point.
Minnesota State doubled its lead early in the second period when
Claire Vekich capitalized on a turnover and netted an unassisted goal just three minutes into the frame.
The Mavericks sealed the win in the third period as
Kianna Roeske buried a goal in the 14th minute, set up by
Lauren Goldsworthy and
Kamryn Van Batavia.
Goaltender
Hailey Hansen stood tall between the pipes, stopping all 17 shots she faced to earn the shutout.
"Really proud of the effort from our group. We moved the puck well and played with speed through the neutral zone. We played selfless hockey and got rewarded with a win." stated head coach Shari Dickerman
With the regular season now complete, the Mavericks turn their focus to the WCHA Quarterfinals, where they will face the University of Minnesota next weekend.
