DULUTH, Minn. – The Minnesota State Mavericks (11-19-2, 5-19-2 WCHA) dropped the second game of its weekend series against sixth-ranked Minnesota Duluth (19-11-2, 13-11-2 WCHA) on Saturday afternoon at AMSOIL Arena, 4-1.
The Bulldogs scored three minutes into the game and quickly doubled their lead two minutes later. The Mavericks responded in the eighth minute of the first period when sophomore
Ava Guillemette netted her second career goal, assisted by seniors
Shelbi Guttormson and
Jayden Seifert.
The Bulldogs regained the two-goal lead a minute later taking a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
Neither team would find the back of the net until Minnesota Duluth scored an empty net goal in the game's final minutes.
"We had another tough start, giving up a couple of early goals. Our fourth line gave us some life with a goal to cut the lead in half, but we gave up another one shortly after. We were better in the second and third periods, but it's going to be important to find some consistency in our game going into next weekend's series with St. Thomas," said head coach
Shari Dickerman.
The Mavericks will conclude their regular season next weekend with a home-and-home series against St. Thomas. The series opens Friday night at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center at 6 p.m.
