MANKATO, Minn – No. 12
Minnesota State University (10-8-1, 4-8-1) fell to No. 13 St. Cloud State (7-11-1, 3-9-1), 4-0 at the Mayo Clinic HSEC Friday afternoon in WCHA women's hockey.
The Huskies scored three times in the first period, striking at 1:35, 14:16, and 19:25 to take early control. SCSU added one more in the second at 9:41.
MSU generated chances throughout, finishing with 28 shots but couldn't solve SCSU goaltender Emilia Kyrkko, who marked her sixth career shutout.
Hailey Hansen made 28 stops for the Mavericks, including 19 in a busy second period.
St. Cloud State went 0-for-5 on the power play, while Minnesota State finished 0-for-3.
Kianna Roeske and
Kamryn Van Batavia led the Mavericks whit four shots on goal apiece.
The Mavericks' will host St. Cloud State for the second game of the series tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT at Mayo Clinic HSEC in Mankato, Minn.
