Rhyan Holmgren tied the game with a layup just 18 seconds into the quarter, setting the tone. Bremer contributed significantly, scoring multiple baskets, including a fast-break layup that pushed the lead to 9–4. The Mavericks capitalized on turnovers and executed a 17–2 run midway through the quarter, highlighted by Stier's three-pointer. The defense held strong, forcing nine turnovers, which fueled their fast-break opportunities. Minnesota State opened the second quarter by setting the tone defensively, as Stokes forced a turnover and finished a layup in the opening moments. Capitalizing on turnovers, the Mavericks scored 21 points off miscues while maintaining pressure with seven steals. Bremer added a jumper and a pair of free throws to extend the lead. In the paint, MSU matched the Vikings with 10 points apiece, but created separation through the fast break, scoring six points in transition.
