MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State tied Bowling Green 1-1 in overtime Saturday at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center. Bowling Green seized the extra point in a shootout.

The Mavericks (4-2-4, 1-1-2 CCHA) has played in three straight overtime games and travels to Lake Superior State next weekend. Bowling Green (2-3-3, 2-1-3 CCHA) is home on Friday to host Ferris State.

Following a scoreless first period, the Mavericks spent more than two minutes inside the Bowling Green defensive zone, then drew a power play in the second. After its expiration,
Luigi Benincasa one-timed a pass from
Liam Watkins for his fourth goal of the season.
Evan Murr started the one-touch passing connection and picked up his third assist.

Minutes later,
Jakob Stender gained a partial breakaway, but his shot was denied by goaltender Jacob Steinman's pad.

With the Mavericks down to three players on the ice,
Ralfs Bergmanis exited the penalty box and immediately set up a great shorthanded chance for Stender. Again, Steinman made the save. Then Quinn Emerson ripped a pass across the top of the crease and Brett Pfoh cashed it in for Bowling Green on the power play to tie it 1-1 at 12:29 of the second period. Ben Doran also assisted.

After a scoreless third period, the Mavericks and Falcons each recorded two shots in overtime. Brett Pfoh scored on his round one shootout attempt for BGSU and Steinman kept MSU off the ledger on three attempts.

Bowling Green outshot Minnesota State 32-27. The Mavericks posted 10 penalties for 28 minutes. The Falcons finished with seven penalties for 22 minutes.
Alex Tracy made 31 saves for MSU. Steinman stopped 26.
