Mavericks Pull Away from Huskies 110-81

MANKATO, Minn. – With 25 offensive rebounds, Minnesota State women's basketball began NSIC play with a 110-81 win over St. Cloud State Tuesday night at Taylor Center.
 
Senior Natalie Bremer (Lake City, Minn.) led MSU with 25 points (12-for-23), and five players made it to double figures for the Mavericks. Haylee Stokes contributed 13 of MSU's 41 points off the bench, and the Huskies committed 35 turnovers.
 
Minnesota State (6-0, 1-0 NSIC) closes its homestand on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. against University of Wisconsin-Parkside in non-conference action. St. Cloud State (2-3, 0-1 NSIC) lost its third straight game and hosts Alaska Fairbanks next.
 
Bremer and Elisabeth Gadient led the Mavericks in the first half with eight points apiece. Minnesota State shot 44.7 percent from the field and scored 32 points in the paint, including 24 points off turnovers for a 51-38 lead. Jada Eggebrecht helped the Huskies with a team-high 12 points in the first half, but SCSU committed 19 turnovers, which the Mavericks converted into 24 points. MSU led by as many as 15 in the second quarter.
 
The Mavericks went on a 12-0 run to the 7:33 mark of the third quarter, then stretched the lead to 75-53. Haylee Stokes' top-of-the-arc three helped MSU keep momentum heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation. The Mavericks outscored SCSU 28-21 in the fourth quarter to pull away.
 
Gadient finished with 17 points and Mackenzie Schweim posted 14. Bremer, Schweim and Adeline Kent accumulated four steals apiece, and the Mavericks totaled 23. The Huskies scored the first basket of the game, but the Purple and Gold led the rest of the way.
