SAINT JOSEPH, Mo. — Minnesota State (1-0) defeated Northwest Missouri State (0-1) 71-49 on Friday at the St. Joseph Civic Arena. The Mavericks dominated the paint, outscoring the Bearcats 42-22 in that area.

Chase Bartlett at 14:14, narrowing the gap. Jones, who notched his fourth career double-double in this game, was pivotal in keeping Minnesota State competitive throughout the match.
Midway through the half, the Mavericks gained momentum with key contributions from junior
Caden Kirkman, who added a fast-break layup at 6:24, helping the home team establish a lead. Sophomore
Joe Buchanan's fast-break three-pointer at 7:48 further extended Minnesota State's advantage. As the half concluded, senior
David Harmon's layup at the 3-second mark sealed the half with Minnesota State ahead, 39-33. Kirkman, recording his fifth career double-double, was instrumental in maintaining the lead with his dynamic play.
MSU gained momentum in the second half with a decisive performance, outscoring the Bearcats 32-16. Junior

Minnesota State dominated the second half, outscoring the Bearcats 32-16. The home side excelled with strong defensive play, recording three blocks and five steals that limited the visitors' opportunities. Minnesota State's advantage in rebounds, 28 to 15, contributed to second-chance points and allowed them to control the pace.
Kirkman recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jones contributed significantly with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals, showcasing his impact on both ends of the floor. Their performances marked significant career milestones, with Kirkman achieving his fifth career double-double and Jones his fourth. They are the first Maverick duo to record double-doubles in the same game since Malik and
Kyreese Willingham did so on February 10, 2023 against Wayne State.
Lewis added eight points and three assists, providing support in the backcourt.
Will Opsahl chipped in with seven points and six rebounds, aiding in the team's overall performance.
Ibeh led the Bearcats with 14 points, including five field goals and two steals. Royce Williams contributed 11 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Aiden Gair added six points, hitting two 3-pointers and providing four assists. Jack Ratigan secured seven rebounds and two assists, playing a key role on the defensive end.
