Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Mavericks Fall to #4 Minnesota Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. — Minnesota State women's hockey team battled hard through a scoreless first period and a 1-0 second period but ultimately fell 5-0 to No. 4 Minnesota Duluth on Friday night at AMSOIL Arena.

The Mavericks held the high-powered Bulldogs off the board for the first 40 minutes behind a strong defensive effort and an impressive performance from goaltender Hailey Hansen, who turned away multiple quality scoring chances to keep MSU in it.

In the third period, the Bulldogs broke through, scoring five times — including a power-play goal midway through the frame. Despite the offensive surge from UMD, Hansen continued to make key stops and finished with an active night in net.

Offensively, Minnesota State generated several strong looks early, with many Mavericks, including Taylor Otremba, Sophie Stramel, Ava Guillemette, and Kamryn Van Batavia, each challenging UMD's goaltender Ève Gascon, who earned the shutout.

The Mavericks (5-2-0, 1-2-0 WCHA) will look to bounce back on Saturday when they close out their series against the Bulldogs at AMSOIL Arena.
