BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Minnesota State Mavericks (10-16-1, 4-16-1 WCHA) dropped the first game of their weekend series against Bemidji State (5-22-1, 3-18 WCHA) in a overtime loss Friday afternoon at the Sanford Center.
The Beavers struck first, scoring in the ninth minute of the opening period to take a 1-0 lead. They extended their advantage to 2-0 early in the second period, capitalizing in the sixth minute.
Minnesota State responded in the 14th minute of the second period when
Whitney Tuttle found the back of the net on a power-play goal, assisted by
JuliAnna Gazdik and
Jamie Nelson. Just a minute later, Tuttle struck again to even the score at 2-2, with assists from
Taylor Otremba and
Madison Mashuga.
With momentum on their side, the Mavericks pushed the game into overtime. However, Bemidji State wasted no time, scoring in the opening seconds of overtime to seal the victory.
The Mavericks look to bounce back in game two of the series, set for a 2:02 p.m. puck drop on Saturday.
