MANKATO, Minn. - No. 17 Minnesota State defeated the Minot State Beavers 1-0 Friday afternoon at the Pitch in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference soccer match. MSU now owns a 4-1-2 record, 3-0-0 in the NSIC.
Although MSU generated chances with four shots on goal, the first half ended with a score of 0-0 with neither team earning a corner opportunity.
Starting the second half, freshman
Alicia Hoffman scored in the 46
th minute. It was the second goal of her collegiate career. Junior
Addison Clarey tallied her first assist of the season on the marker.
"We talked about taking every game 45 minutes at a time," Hoffman said. "We put the first 45 behind us and we decided we wanted it more."
"The energy we had in the first half wasn't what we wanted it to be at, but then in addition to that we were far way too passive defensively we were giving up way too much," Stated
Brian Bahl. "We did much better in the second half, giving up zero shots. We were much more engaged regards to our aggression in the second half."
The Mavericks stepped up their play in the second half and recorded eight shots on goal. Minot State fell to 2-2-2, 0-1-1 NSIC. Up next for the Mavericks is University of Mary on Sunday, September 29 at 1 p.m. at The Pitch.
