MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's basketball team finished the 2023-24 season ranked second in attendance in NCAA Division II.
MSU, which went on to win the NCAA Championship behind a 35-2 record, averaged 2,250 fans in its 18 games at Taylor Center, trailing only Northern State which averaged 2,472 fans a game. In terms of total attendance, the Mavericks led the way in NCAA Division II as 38,253 fans attended throughout the season, with Northern State following in second with 37,076.
The 2023-24 season saw the Mavericks go a perfect 17-0 at Taylor Center as they averaged 86.2 points per game, while limiting their opponents to 68.8 points a game. Highlights of the season include MSU's 100-96 overtime win vs. Minnesota Duluth on Dec. 19 and the Mavericks' 81-78 win over MSU Moorhead in front of 4,155 fans.
After winning the NSIC regular season and tournament championships, Minnesota State was selected to host the NCAA Central Region Tournament for the fifth time in team history. The Mavericks averaged 4,106 fans in its three games during the regional tournament. Against Northwest Missouri State in the regional championship game, 4,519 fans watched the Maverick defeat the Bearcats 43-42 on a last-second shot to advance to the NCAA Elite Eight. The attendance of 4,519 was the second-highest attended game in Taylor Center history.
The Mavericks boasted three of the top-10 highest attended games in Division II. MSU's game vs. Northwest Missouri State ranked sixth with 4,519 fans, while its games against MSU Moorhead (4,155) and Arkansas Tech (4,012) ranked ninth and tenth, respectively. The Mavericks NCAA Tournament game vs. MSU Moorhead ranked 12th with 3,789 fans, while MSU's game vs. Augustana (3,577) ranked 17th.
Minnesota State has won its last 19 games at Taylor Center dating back to Feb. 4, 2023. It is the second-longest winning streak in Taylor Center history.
