Mavericks Compete in Three Invitationals in California

Mankato, Minn. – Ten Mavericks placed in the top 15 in their events this week during competition at the Bryan Clay Invite, Cerritos Invite, and Long Beach Invite.
 
The Bryan Clay Invite took place Friday and Saturday. On Friday, senior MaKenna Thurston ran a personal best time of 2:09.34 in the 800m run to place 12th. This time ranks Thurston fourth on the MSU all-time outdoor top performances list, and 15th on the national rankings for the season.
 
Competing on Saturday, senior Denisha Cartwright placed first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.09s, joined by senior Roxan Foster placing 12th after running a 13.96s.
 
In the triple jump, freshman Ghada Hamdani recorded an outdoor personal best mark of 12.16m (39' 10.75"). This leap placed Hamdani 11th in the event and 6th on the MSU all-time list.
 
Two Mavericks competed in the Bryan Clay heptathlon in various groups. In Group B, freshman Victoriia Ermolaeva placed eighth with a score of 5108. This personal best score in the event places the freshman second on the MSU all-time list and 15th nationally. Sophomore Miranda Lauvstad competed in Group D, tying for seventh after a personal best score of 4748. This is good for fifth on the MSU all-time list, as well as 27th in the national rankings.
 
At the Cerritos Invite on Saturday, Cartwright again placed first in the 100m hurdles, crossing the finish line at 12.94s. Cartwright hold the number one spot on the MSU all-time list, as well as the number one rank on the national list. In second for the event was Foster, with a personal best time of 13.69s, now ranking her third for MSU and fifth nationally.
 
In the 400m hurdles, senior Eilika Lane finished first with a time of 1:01.36.
 
Junior Tijuanique Morton ran the 100m dash, placing sixth with a time of 11.93s, followed by junior Antianna Walsh, with a time of 12.33s to finish 11th.
 
Senior Paige Hickson was the lone Maverick at the Long Beach Invite in the pole vault. Hickson tied for fourth with a vault of 4.06m (13' 3.75").
 
Minnesota State goes right back into competition this Wednesday, April 17th at the M City Classic, along with competition this coming weekend.
