Long Beach, Calif. – The Mavericks have traveled to California for competition this week, starting off with an impressive day at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Invite. In all three events that she competed in, senior
Denisha Cartwright took home a first-place finish.
Starting with the 4x100m relay, junior
Adeyah Brewster, Cartwright, senior
Rose Cramer, and junior
Tijuanique Morton sprinted a time of 44.79s to place first. The time is good for second on the national rankings for the season, second on the MSU all-time top outdoor performances list, and breaks the meet record previously set by South Dakota.
In the 100m dash, Cartwright placed first, along with marking a first-place spot on the MSU all-time list, with a time of 11.28s (2.2m/s wind speed). This time also sets the new meet record for the Pacific Coast Invitational, along with meets the minimum standard to qualify for the 2024 USA Olympic Trials.
Senior
Roxan Foster ran the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.74 seconds to place ninth and rank sixth nationally.
Cartwright finished her impressive day in the 200m dash, with a time of 23.45s to place first and tie for fourth in the national rankings for the season.
Senior
Eilika Lane ran the 400m dash and the 400m hurdles. In the open race, lane placed second with a personal best time of 54.73s. This time ranks Lane third on the MSU all-time performances list and 11
th on the national rankings. In the 400m hurdles, Lane also ran a personal best to finish 15
th. Her time of 1:00.37 is now second on the MSU list and ranks third on the national list.
Three Mavericks competed in the triple jump, led by sophomore
Lillian Washington, tying for third with an outdoor personal best leap of 12.47m (40'11"). Washington's jump is good for fourth nationally and second on the MSU all-time list. Junior
Stella Neophytou took sixth with a jump of 12.30m (40' 4.25"), ranking third right behind Washington on the MSU list and seventh in the national rankings. In eighth for the event was freshman
Ghada Hamdani, with a jump of 12.14m (39' 10"), ranking in the top 15 nationally and sixth overall for MSU.
The Mavericks continue their competition season in California this week at the Bryan Clay Invitational tomorrow.
