CLEVELAND, Ohio - Minnesota State University ranked 20th in the Learfield Directors' Cup fall standings among Division II institutions. The Mavericks enjoyed great success in the fall. Soccer finished as National Division II runner-up and football made the National Division II semifinals. MSU's teams combined for a 99-38-10 record and were the top-ranked team in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), ahead of Augustana (57th) and St. Cloud State (60th).
The Learfield Directors' Cup fall standings for Divisions I, II, III and the NAIA have Stanford (DI – 413.00), Grand Valley State (DII – 331.00 total points), Johns Hopkins (DIII – 495.50 total points) and Indiana Wesleyan (NAIA – 435.50 total points) sitting in first of their respective divisions.
In Division II, Wingate is in second place with 283.50 points, Colorado State Pueblo is in third with 282.50 points, Cal Poly Pomona is in fourth place with 267.00 points and Colorado School of Mines rounds out the top five with 248.00 points.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and
USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
Minnesota State completed the 2023-24 season ranked ninth in the Learfield Directors' Cup standings. The Mavericks have finished in the top-25 a total of 22 times in the 27 years since the Directors' Cup program was inaugurated - 2nd in 2008-09, 3rd in 2007-08, 4th in 2006-07, 2009-10 and 2012-13, 5th in 2014-15 and 2015-16, 8th in 2005-06, 2016-17 and 2022-23, 9th in 2023-24, 10th in 2004-05 and 2021-22, 11th in 2017-18, 13th in 2010-11, 15th in 2013-14, 16th in 1995-96, 20th in 2003-04, 21st in 2011-12, 22nd in 2002-03, 23rd in 2001-02, 24th in 2018-19.
