MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – No. 16 Minnesota State scored four third-period goals to win 5-3 Friday night over St. Thomas in CCHA men's hockey.
Brian Carrabes posted a goal and a pair of assists and
Adam Eisele scored the game-winner as the Mavericks improved to 7-4-0, 2-1-0 in conference play. UST and MSU meet again Saturday night at 6:07 p.m. at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.

Cooper Gay tipped a Chase Foley point shot at 13:46 for the game's opening goal. Then Lucas Wahlin tapped in a bouncing rebound on the back doorstep, approaching one minute to play. Liam Malmquist and Foley assisted.
Â
Carrabes began to turn the tide for MSU in the second. After collecting a loose puck at the top of the Tommie zone, he fired a forehand over the blocker of Aaron Trotter at even strength, unassisted at 4:29.
Â
Malmquist nearly scored from the high slot but his shot was disallowed after a collision occurred in the crease with goaltender
Alex Tracy. The Mavericks headed to the locker room with a one-goal deficit.
Â
The Mavericks played two players short early in the third period. Tracy made a sprawling save to stop a point-blank shot but Malmquist one-timed a power play goal a minute later for a 3-1 edge.
Â
Luke Ashton answered for Minnesota State at 3:06 and ripped a wrister from in front of the Tommie bench to the glove side.
Luigi Benincasa caused a turnover at the top of the Maverick defensive zone and Luciano Wilson cashed in on the ensuing 2-on-1 to tie the game 3-3 at 6:35, his first goal of the season.
Â
Then Eisele tipped
Rhett Pitlick's sharp-angle shot in the corner and the Mavericks took the lead 4-3 on a 5-on-3 power play. Wilson hit the crossbar with a try seconds later for MSU.
Â
A five-minute major penalty and game misconduct for contact to the head was assessed to the Tommies' Ryder Donovan following a heavy collision with Tracy. He remained in the game and with 1:10 remaining and the Mavericks went on a 5-on-3 power play.
Brett Moravec scored on an empty net to seal the road victory.
