MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State men's and women's golf coach
Alex Schmitz has announced that one student-athlete will join the women's golf team and three will join the men's golf team in the fall of 2025.
All signings and transfers are contingent upon admission to MSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
Hailing from Altoona, Wis.,
Karalyn Skinner is a four-time all-conference honoree with the girl's golf team at Altoona High School. She is also a three-time All-State honoree and played in the Junior CVGA from 2019-24 and WPGA Jr. events from 2020-present.
"Karalyn comes from a family with deeps roots in golf, Schmitz said. "Her dad played golf at North Dakota State and he is the current director of golf in Eau Claire, Wis."
Karalyn intends to major in accounting. She has also served as a student-council member and treasurer for the National Honor Society.
Born in Hacienda Heights, Calif.,
Paul Rezko has studied at the British School Al Khubairat in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He has played in 20 WAGR events, including two first place finishes at the Abu Dhabi City Golf Club. He boasted seven top-10 finishes and six finishes in the top-5.
"Paul brings a competitive edge with his experience at the national level," Schmitz said. "He is one of my first international recruits and I look forward to seeing him bring his talents to MSU."
Rezko was a three-time captain of his high school team and the club champion at the Abu Dhabi City Golf Club where he was named the junior golfer of the year five times. He also tied the course record at his home club and was a two-time doubles winner at Guadalhorce Golf Club in Malaga, Spain.
Paul is the son for Pierre and Roula Rezko and he intends to major in business.
An all-conference honoree from Hudson, Wis.,
Samuel Swavely has earned a pair of conference honors, including an All-Big Rivers Conference First Team honor. He has also garnered a pair of all-state honorable mentions.
"Sam has come from a competitive background in golf," Schmitz said. "With his brother playing golf at Minnesota its pushed Sam's game to the next level and we're excited to have him be a part of Minnesota State."
Samuel is the son of Jessica and Jason Swavely. He intends to major in business finance. His dad Jason played basketball at UW-River Falls and his brother golf for University of Minnesota.
Hailing from Chiang Mai, Thailand,
Chidtawan "Waii" Wangrungwichaisri was named the Player of the Year from Future Golf Thailand in 2022 and 2024. He was also on the silver medal men's golf youth team in 2023 and 2024.
"Chidtawan "Waii" Wangrungwichaisri is another international recruit that has experience at the national level," Schmitz said. "His brother is ranked #418 in the world and almost qualified for The Masters through the Asian Pacific Amateur Championship. We look forward to Waii joining our team next season."
Waii is the son of Wilailuk Wangrungwichaisri and intends to major in Physical Therapy or Exercise Science at Minnesota State. He also received the Elite Award from Montfort College from 2019-2024 and was on the gold medal national youth team in 2022.
