#13 Mavericks Pick Up Sixth Win of Season against Bulldogs

DULUTH, Minn. --- #13 Minnesota State kept things rolling Friday evening on the road as the Mavericks bested Minnesota Duluth 1-0.

With the win, MSU improves to 6-1-2 on the season, including a 5-0-0 record in NSIC action. With the loss, UMD drops to 1-6-1 on the season, including a 1-3-1 conference record. MSU's 5-0 start to its NSIC schedule is its best start since the 2017 season when the Mavericks opened their conference schedule with a 6-0 record.

"I'm really proud of our ladies tonight," head coach Brian Bahl said. "We had to battle to get out with the win in a really tough place to play. It's never easy to win on the road in the NSIC."

Neither team found the back of the net in the first half as the Mavericks outshot the Bulldogs 6-1 in the first 45 minutes.

The scoreless tie was broken in the 72nd minute of the second half as freshman Marin Johnson notched her second goal of the season to put MSU 1-0. Freshman Elan Litt got credit for her first assist of the season on the goal by Johnson.

The Maverick defense continued to put up a wall in front of the Bulldogs as it allowed no shots in the second half, en route to the 1-0 win.

In total, the Mavericks outshot the Bulldogs 13-1, including a 9-0 advantage in shots on goal. MSU also enjoyed a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

"We were able to really limit UMD's opportunities and had to be patient with our opportunities," Bahl said. "The UMD goalkeeper was tough to beat. We put nine of our 13 shots on goal, so I felt it was just a matter of time and finally, a great service from Elan Litt, put Marin Johnson in and she finished off the game winner with great composure."

Senior Claire Longueville picked up fourth shutout of the season as she improved to 5-0-1 on the season. UMD's Kaycee Chavez (1-6-1) took the loss as she made eight saves.

Minnesota State continues its season on the road this Sunday as it takes on the St. Cloud State Huskies. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
