MANKATO, Minn. --- #3 Minnesota State resumes its season this Friday at home as it takes on the Northern State Wolves. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., at Taylor Center.
  
Minnesota State History: The 2023-24 season marks the 102nd campaign as a varsity sport for Minnesota State men's basketball. The Mavericks are 1,427-945 (.601) in 2,372 games since the program's inception in the 1920-21 season. In the NSIC, MSU owns a 217-104 (.676) record to go with four regular-season championships and two tournament championships.

Against the Wolves: Friday's game between Minnesota State and Northern State marks their 33rd meeting, with MSU leading the all-time series 17-15. The Mavericks have lost their last two games against the Wolves, including a 104-87 loss on the road last season.

Junior Kyreese Willingham recorded 26 points and six rebounds, while junior Tyrell Stuttley notched 12 points. Senior Malik Willingham added eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists also.

Josh Dilling and Jacksen Moni paced the Wolves with 22 points each. Moni hauled in seven rebounds also, while Augustin Reede tallied 13 points.

Head Coach Matt Margenthaler owns a 10-12 record against Northern State, including a 5-3 record at Taylor Center.

Concerning the Mavericks: Minnesota State enters the week the owner of a 13-0 record, including a 7-0 NSIC record. MSU defeated Minnesota Duluth 100-96 in overtime in its most recent outing. MSU's 13-0 start to the season is the second-best start in team history, trailing its 17-0 start of the 2009-10 season.

Senior Malik Willingham is averaging 19.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists a game this season. Junior Kyreese Willingham is posting 12.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game also, while graduate student Dylan Peeters has posted 12.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Junior Justin Eagins is averaging 13.6 points a game also and leads the team in three pointers made with 36.

The Mavericks are led by Matt Margenthaler, who is in his 23rd season at Minnesota State. He owns a career record of 466-209 (.690).

Concerning the Wolves: Northern State enters the week the owner of a 5-7 record, including a 3-3 NSIC record. NSU fell to both Minot State (77-72 OT) and Minnesota Crookston (71-64) on the road in its most recent outings.

As a unit, NSU is averaging 77.4 points and 34.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 45.7% from the field and 34.1% from three point range. The Wolves have passed out 162 assists and have forced 132 turnovers.

Jacksen Moni is leading the Wolves with 20.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Josh Dilling has tallied 20.1 points and 4.4 assists a game also, while Augustin Reede has notched 9.1 points per game.

Northern State is coached by Saul Phillips who is in his fifth season as head coach of the Wolves. He owns a 309-195 (.613) career record, including a 94-34 (.734) record at Northern State.
