MARSHALL, Minn. – Minnesota State (5-4) fell to the No. 11 ranked Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs (8-1) Thursday night at P.E. Gym. The Mustangs won all three sets in the match, defeating the Mavericks 3-0.
The Mustangs dominated the match, winning the first set 25-17, then the second 25-14. Finally, the Mustangs closed out the match with a 25-17 set three win.
The Mavericks were led in kills by
Sophie Tietz, who had seven. The senior also had four blocks for second on the team.
Kiya Durant led Minnesota State in blocks with six, a match high.
Ellie Kline was the Maverick's team leader in digs with 16.
For the Mustangs, junior
Saari Kuehl and sophomore
Karli Arkell both had 11 kills.
Alisa Bengen had 32 kills.
"We need to make changes quicker when our opponent shows their hand," said Mavericks head coach
Corey Phelps. "Despite the good things we did tonight, we were not disciplined on defense and that cost us. We will be better moving forward."
The Mavericks host Winona State on Saturday, September 16 at 2 p.m. at the Taylor Center.
