MANKATO, Minn. --- Following a vote from Minnesota State coaches and staff members, senior
Brendan Furry has received the Don Buchanan Award as Minnesota State's most well-rounded male student-athlete.
A native of Toeldo, Ohio, Furry is the sixth member of the Maverick men's hockey team to receive the award joining
Shane Jospeh (2003-04),
Steven Johns (2004-05),
Rylan Galiardi (2010-11),
John Schiller (2012-13) and
Dylan Margonari (2015-16).
Furry boasts a 3.81 GPA and is majoring in sport management. He was named a WCHA Scholar Athlete for the 2020-21 season and to the CCHA All-Academic Team for the past two seasons. Furry was also named the CCHA Scholar Athlete of the Year for the 2022-23 season.
During his career, Furry played in 111 games during his three seasons with the Mavericks where he tallied 27 goals and 58 assists for a total of 85 career points. He was named to the 2022 NCAA Albany Regional All-Tournament Team for posting a goal and an assist at the 2022 regional tournament.
