Mankato, Minn. -- Minnesota State (22-6, 12-2 NSIC) took down Minnesota Duluth (12-18, 5-12 NSIC) by a final of 13-5 at Bowyer Field.
After junior Ryan Wickman was hit by a pitch to open the first inning for the Mavericks, freshman Louis Magers pushed Wickman over to third with a double down the left-field line.
Junior Jackson Hauge's sacrifice fly brought in the speedy center fielder giving the Mavericks the early lead.
The next batter Junior Adam Schneider extended the MSU lead with his second homer of the season quickly giving the Mavericks a 3-0 lead.
Hauge then took matters into his own hands in the Bottom of the third taking Duluth's starting pitcher deep for his third moon shot of the season.
The Mavericks tacked on two more in their half of the fifth courtesy of freshman Matthew Fleichhacker. The first-year infielder found himself with runners at third and second punching a single through the left side plating two to grow the Mavericks' lead to six runs.
Duluth would climb its way back into the game in the top of the seventh scoring five unanswered runs.
After two walks to lead off the bottom of the eighth, freshman Louis Magers hammered a three-run homer giving the Mavericks a comfortable five-run lead.
Minnesota State would add three more runs in their half of the eight playing to a final of 13-5.
Senior Dylan Gotto (6-1) got the win by putting in six innings of work allowing five runs on 10 hits.
Zach Kuseke (2-2) got tagged with the loss surrendering seven runs on 11 hits through five innings.
The Mavericks are back in action Monday as they take on Gustavus Adolphus College at 3:00 p.m. at Gustavus Field.
