SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team bested Southwest Minnesota State 4-0 in the first round of the NSIC Tournament Friday morning.
With the win, MSU improves to 14-1 on the season. With the loss, SMSU finishes its season with a 6-15 record.
The Mavericks began the day winning the first two doubles matches to secure the first point of the dual.
Senior
Chiara Carnelutti and sophomore
Freia Lawrence earned their 13th No. 2 doubles match win of the season as they bested Courtenay Leonard and Gabriela Almeida 6-0. Freshman
McKenna DeMarce and sophomore
Elizabeth Felderman posted a 6-1 win over Joana Reis Indio and Maura Wiens in the No. 3 doubles match for their 11th No. 3 doubles win of the season also. The No. 1 doubles match between MSU's

Avery Stilwell and SMSU's Faith Madikwe and Roz Oye went unfinished.
Minnesota State then won three of the singles matches to secure the 4-0 win.
Canelutti defeated Indio 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles match, before DeMarce bested Camila Paccieri 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles match. Freshman
Daria Podmogilnaia then secured the dual for the Mavericks as she defeated Wiens 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles match.
The No. 2 singles match between Lawrence and Leonard, the No. 4 singles match between Stilwell and the No. 1 singles match between Page and Almeida went unfinished.
Minnesota State will take on the University of Mary on Saturday in the second round of the NSIC Tournament. The dual is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
