Cihak Wins Wildcat Invite; Mavericks Finish Second

Wayne, Neb. --- Minnesota State junior Anna Cihak shot a two-under 70 en route to winning the Wildcat Classic hosted by Wayne State College with a 73-70--143 while pacing the Mavericks to a second-place finish of 301-307—608.

 

The two-day long event featured ten teams and was played at the Wayne Country Club, a par-72 course that played to 5,918 yards.  Augustana won the event with a 293-309—607.

 

Cihak opened her round rattling off ten straight pars before recording three straight birdies over holes 11, 12 and 13.  Cihak finished the event with six birdies, which was tied for second amongst the field.  She also turned in 23 pars, which was tied for third.  Additionally, Cihak played the par threes and the par fours at a +1 on the week, while finishing three under on the par fives.

 

As a team, Minnesota State led the field in scoring on par fours with a 4.26, which was 26-over, six shots better than Wayne State’s 32-over.  The Mavericks finished with the second most pars in the event, 101, while turning in the third most birdies, 17.

 

Freshman Sammy Youngquist and senior Sam Soulier finished shooting identical 76-79—155, which was good for a tie for 15th place.  Senior Madi McGinty and junior Delaney Conrad each shot a 158, McGinty’s coming on a pair of 79s while Conrad shot an 76-82—158, good for a tie for 25th place. 

 

Individually, sophomore Kelly Winter shot an 80-79—159 which was tied for 28th while freshman Ava Olson shot an 83-80—163 which was good for a tie for 35th. 

 

The Mavericks travel to Smithsville, Mo., April 28-30 for the NSIC Championships to wrap up the spring portion of their schedule.
