Minnesota State Splits Doubleheader Against UMary

WAYNE, Neb. -- Minnesota State (18-6, 8-2 NSIC) split its doubleheader against UMary (11-13, 4-5 NSIC) after falling to the Marauders 5-2 in the first game and toping UMary 14-6 in the nightcap.

The Mavericks found their only offensive spark in the third inning.

After freshman Matthew Fleischhacker worked a leadoff single followed but a sophomore Mikey Gottschalk walk, junior Jackson Hauge doubled down the left field line to give the Mavericks a 2-1 lead.

UMarry scored four unanswered runs to send the Marauders to a 5-2 win in game one.

Junior Nathan Culley (4-2) was tagged with the loss going five innings and surrendering four runs on eight hits while compiling seven strikeouts.

Halen Knoll (1-0) earned his first complete game of his career going seven innings allowing two runs on two hits.

Minnesota State exploded for 14 runs in game two of the doubleheader.

After the Mavericks fell behind 2-1 in the third inning, sophomore Nick Baker crushed a solo shot for his first home run in the purple and gold erasing the only Marauder lead of the second game.

Junior Ryan Wickman finished the game with four RBIs after heroics in the ninth to give the Mavericks a massive five-run cushion after punching his second hit of the game through the left side plating the two freshmen Louis Magers and Matthew Fleischhacker.

Fleischhacker lead the Mavericks produced at the plate going 2-3 while also accumulating three walks in the game. The first-year infielder lead the team in runs scored with three.

Sophomore Brock Johnson lead MSU in the hit department going 3-4 with a walk while compiling two RBIs and a run scored.

Junior Taisei Yahiro (3-0) continues his dominant season going three innings of work while surrounding one run on three hits while accumulating four strikeouts.

Parker Wakelyn (0-2) was tagged with the loss going one inning of work allowing four runs on no hits.

The Mavericks are back in action tomorrow taking on UMary at Pete Chapman Baseball Complex. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
