WAYNE, Neb. -- Minnesota State (15-5, 5-1 NSIC) notches its second win of the weekend against Minot State (14-6, 5-3 NSIC) with a final of 4-3 in 11 innings.
Junior Ryan Wickman led off the top of the first working a free pass and advanced to third on his seventh stolen base on the year and a wild pitch. Junior Jackson Hauge pushed Wickman home on a ground ball to the shortstop giving the Mavericks the early lead.
In the top of the third, Sophomore Brock Johnson worked a two-out walk and advanced to second on his sixth stolen base on the season. The next batter, junior Adam Schneider punched a single through the right-side platting Johnson and extending the Maverick's lead by two.
The Mavericks were set up for more success in their half of the sixth courtesy to freshman Matthew Fleichhacker and Wickman who both work their way on base with no outs. After junior Mikey Gottschalk moved the runners up on a sacrifice bunt, Fleichhacker scored on a passed ball extending MSU's lead to 3-0.
Minot State responded with three runs in its half of the sixth tied the game at three.
Freshman Tanner Shumski and Senior Jack Brown were called upon to lock down the Beavers offense through a combined six innings of work resulting in scoreless baseball.
In the eleventh inning, sophomore Brock Johnson and junior Ryan Friedges lead off with a pair of singles to put runners on the corners for sophomore Aidan Byrne. The Mavericks' shortstop reached on a fielder's choice scoring Johnson to regain the lead for the Mavericks.
Senior Jack Brown (1-0) finished off the Beavers resulting in his first win of the season. Brown put in four and two-third innings of work while keeping a clean ERA on two hits.
Austin Loeb (0-1) got tagged with the loss going one inning allowing one run on two hits.
The Mavericks are back in action tomorrow to take on Bemidji State at Bishop Mueller Field in Sioux City, Iowa.
