MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State recorded its fifth conference win of the season Saturday evening as the Mavericks defeated the University of Mary 5-2.
With the win, MSU improves to 8-1, including a 5-1 NSIC record. With the loss, UMary drops to 5-5, including a 4-2 conference record.
The Mavericks began the dual winning all three of the doubles matches to secure the first point.
Senior
Lois Page and sophomore
Avery Stilwell defeated Chloe Chong and Ilona Freitag 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles match, while senior
Chiara Carnelutti and sophomore
Freia Lawrence won 7-5 in the No. 2 doubles match against Doaa Farouk Mohamed and Hala Hossam Awad by the score of 7-5. Freshman
McKenna DeMarce and sophomore
Elizabeth Felderman earned a 6-1 win over Emily Needham and Samantha Purpura in the No. 3 doubles match also.
MSU then won four of the six singles matches to secure the 5-2 win.
Page defeated Chong 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 1 singles match, while Carnelutti bested Freitag 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 in the No. 3 singles match. DeMarce bested Needham 6-4, 7-6 in the No. 5 singles match, while sophomore
Hana Minisy defeated Purpura 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles match.
Minnesota State continues its season on Friday as it takes on St. Cloud State in Rogers, Minn. The dual is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
