WINONA, Minn. --- Minnesota State earned its third NSIC victory of the season Sunday evening as the Mavericks defeated Upper Iowa 6-1.
With the win, MSU improves to 6-1, including a 3-1 NSIC record. With the loss, UIU falls to 0-5 overall and 0-5 in conference action.
The Mavericks secured the first point of the dual as they won all three of the doubles matches.
Sophomore
Freia Lawrence and senior
Chiara Carnelutti defeated Rafaela Tavares and Johanne Vallee 6-0 in the No. 1 doubles match, while freshman
McKenna DeMarce and sophomore
Elizabeth Felderman bested Alex Garcia and Varvara Ogorodnikova 6-1 in the No. 2 doubles match. Sophomore
Hana Minisy and freshman
Daria Podmogilaia won via forfeit in the third doubles match.
MSU then won five of the six singles matches to claim the 6-1 win.
Lawrence defeated Ogorodnikova 7-6, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match, while Carnelutti won 6-1, 6-3 against Vallee in the No. 2 singles match. DeMarce bested Garcia 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles match, while Minisy defeated Katie O'Brien 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles match. Freshman
Georgia Deml won the No. 6 singles match via a forfeit.
Minnesota State continues its season this Friday as it takes on MSU Moorhead in St. Peter, Minn. The dual is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m.
