Minneapolis, Minn. --- The Minnesota State Mavericks (13-4, 3-0 NSIC) defeated Northern State (5-9, 0-3 NSIC) by a final of 5-2.
After the wolves grabbed the early lead in the first inning, the Mavericks went to work in their half of the third scoring all five tallies.
Junior Hunter Ranweiler, freshman Louis Magers, and sophomore Mikey Gottschalk all punch through singles to load the bases for sophomore Aidan Byrne. Byrne followed suit notching a single of his own scoring Ranweiler allowing the Mavericks to take the lead.
The next batter junior Jackson Hauge hit a slow dribbler to the pitcher who threw it over the catcher's head allowing both Byrne and Gottschalk to score extending the Mavericks lead to 4-1.
Sophomore Brock Johnson finished off the scoring onslaught for the Mavericks after an RBI double to right center plating Hauge for the Mavericks fifth tally on the day.
Aiden McGee was summoned in the top of the ninth to oversee the Mavericks victory, do so ensuring the 5-2 final. McGee claimed his team-leading third save on the season.
Senior Chandler Fochs (2-1) notched his second win on the season going seven innings while allowing one run on three hits accumulating four punch-outs.
Max Otto (0-3) got tagged with the loss going five innings surrendering five runs on seven hits.
The Mavericks are back in action next weekend when they travel up to Minot State to play the Beavers March 25-26. The first pitch for both days are scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
