Box Score 2 WAYNE, Neb. -- The Minnesota State Mavericks (14-5, 4-1 NSIC) split its Sunday doubleheader in Wayne, Nebraska. The Mavericks dropped their first game by a final of 2-1 then responded with an 10-5 victory in game two.
Minot State jumped out to a one-run lead in their half of the first after Matt Malone tripled down the right field line scoring Derek Kay.
Junior
Nick Baker lead off the third inning with a single to right field for the first Maverick hit of the day. Baker would advance to second after junior
Ryan Wickman took a pitch off his arm for his four hit-by-pitch this season.
The next batter, sophomore
Mikey Gottschalk doubled to left center driving in Baker for his eighth RBI on the season to even the score at one.
Minot State found its winning run in the bottom of the third off a Brent Riddle solo homer giving the Beavers the one run separation that would hold for a 2-1 final.
Junior
Nathan Culley (4-1) was tagged with his first loss on the season despite a season-high in strikeouts with 10 on the day. Culley went six innings while surrendering two runs on four hits.
Trevyn Badger (4-1) grabbed the win after seven innings of work allowing one run on two hits.
In game two, the Mavericks responded with a dominate 15-5 victory.
Junior
Adam Schneider got scoring started with a solo shot in the top of the second for his first homer on the season.
After Beavers took the lead in the bottom of the second, The Mavericks erupted. Junior
Hunter Ranweiler lead off the inning with a walk to then go along with two singles from freshman
Matthew Fleischacker and Junior
Ryan Wickman.
Junior
Mikey Gottschalk would come up with no outs with the bases juiced and took full advantage of the opportunity. Gottschalk sent a shot over the right center fence for his first career grand slam giving the Mavericks a 5-2 lead.
Junior

The Mavericks would build on their run total in the seventh inning after junior
Jackson Hauge lead off with a single and later brought in by a junior
Adam Schneider single.
Freshman
Cole Ranweiler came into pitch run for Schnieder who advanced to second after junior
Nick Baker was hit by a pitch.
Sophomore
Aidan Byrne knocked a single through the right side bringing home the freshman for his second run of his career increasing the lead to 8-5.
The Mavericks would steal one more run in the seventh inning off an error throw from the pitcher in a pickoff attempt scoring Baker.

Ryan Wickman an easy pass to second base. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, junior
Jackson Hauge drove him home on a sacrifice fly to right field to extend Minnesota State's lead to 10-5.
The Mavericks would score five more runs off six walks and two more throwing errors.
Senior
Dylan Gotto (5-1) earned the win going five innings surrendering 5 runs on five hits.
Bryant Bagshaw (4-1) took the loss going four innings allowing six runs on seven hits.
The Mavericks are back in action tomorrow in Wayne, Nebraska for their final game against Minot. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
